Sales is Compassion: in three quotes

💡 Leading with Integrity: Why Our Commitment to Excellence Matters

Yesterday, I had the privilege of speaking to the Certified Senior Advisors (CSA) Leaders Network about the profound meaning of our certification and how actively participating in the Network fuels our professional growth and elevates the service we provide to families every day.

Being a CSA isn’t just a credential; it’s a public demonstration of our commitment to excellence in serving older adults. Joining the Leadership Network further amplifies this, connecting us to vital mentors, collaborative referral partners, and essential learning opportunities.

Sales Training in Three Quotes: Character Over Tactics

We are all in sales, but what we truly sell is far more than a product or service—it’s our character and the heart we bring to our work. I closed my talk by sharing three quotes that redefine what “selling” means for professionals serving potentially vulnerable populations.

“Act as if what you do makes a difference. It does.” (William James)

Our financial and temporal investments in ourselves, like achieving the CSA credential, matter. They signify that we are dedicated to giving our best selves to the families we serve, setting a new standard of excellence, and differentiating ourselves -as well as the brands and companies we represent – in the market.

“We rise by lifting others.” (Robert Ingersoll)

I used to have a complicated relationship with this quote. Lifting others shouldn’t be a tool for self-anything. Later in life i reflected: This isn’t a transactional concept. Real “rising” is about elevating ourselves as humans—rising in compassion, kindness, and connection. When we commit to serving others, our own character and professionalism improve in the most profound ways.

“Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can.” (John Wesley)

For those of us serving older adults and their families, sales isn’t about manipulation or antiquated tactics. It’s about genuine compassion and focusing on the positive impact we make at the end of every day.

I am the only deathcare professional in Florida who is also a Certified Senior Advisor. I made this investment because so many of those i have the honor to serve are 55+, and being CSA educated and connected to other CSA professionals levels-up the service i can provide to families.

I left the talk energized by the dedication of the CSA Leadership Network members. Thank you for letting me share my reflections on service, leadership, and the power of doing good.
