When we donate to gift drives, we often think about something the child would like – and we often define “child” as very young. The older kids get left out. The kids interested in cool science stuff get left out.
If a youth with an interest in astronomy comes from an affluent family, they might receive a $300 telescope as a gift. If that same youth is from a family making hard financial decisions every month, that telescope may not be an option. The purpose of the STEM Gift Drive is to increase equitable access to STEM toys, games, and books for at-risk youth in our community.
We’re proud to support future scientists through the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida – all gifts go directly to them. BGC currently has over 12,000 club members attending about 40 clubs located across Central Florida. Each of the clubs hosts a dedicated STEM Program for interested members.
