The Starfish Story: A New Ending

A child walking down a beach noticed someone picking something up and throwing it into the ocean. “what are you doing?” the child asked. “Throwing starfish back into the ocean. I can’t save them all, but I can save this one.” the kind adult answered, hoping to inspire compassionate action.

And it worked!

The child wondered, “What about all the ones that aren’t saved? Why are they washing up? Is something wrong with the water? Is it part of a natural cycle? What happens to the starfish that are thrown back in – will they just wash back up again? Can we help them from washing up in the first place?”

So the child grew up to become a marine biologist specializing in coastal ecology and lived scientifically ever after. And saved many, many starfish.

The Boys & Girls Clubs STEM Programming is focused on uplifting at-risk youth and providing encouragement and resources for curious young minds to flourish.
